A JHS Pedals has introduced the Morning Glory Clean, a new version of its most famous overdrive, redesigned to provide enhanced dynamic control and fidelity to the original tone of the instrument. The goal is to merge the classic foundation inspired by the Bluesbreaker circuit with an advanced parallel clean blend system, allowing users to mix the original signal with the overdrive without compromising the attack, bass response, and tonal nuances.
The concept emerged after a soundcheck session with guitarist Julian Lage, a long-time user of the original Morning Glory. According to the brand, his quest for a balance between clarity, dynamics, and responsiveness served as inspiration for developing a solution that maintains the natural character of the amplifier, even at higher gain levels.
“Even the most transparent overdrives alter the tone,” explained Josh Scott, the founder of the company. “Often, you lose pick attack and bass response. So we tried something no one had done before: we completely rebuilt the Morning Glory around a studio-grade clean blend in parallel.”
New Sound System
The pedal features a dual potentiometer Clean control, designed to follow the overdrive gain without creating abrupt volume changes or phase issues. This allows for precise dosages of how much of the clean signal is reintegrated into the saturated sound. Additionally, the power supply circuit has been upgraded to ensure greater headroom and dynamic response.
The Tone control exclusively affects the overdrive path, keeping the clean signal intact. Meanwhile, the Drive knob enables exploration from light saturation to more pronounced levels of compression, all while maintaining definition and clarity. Furthermore, the Morning Glory Clean can function as a pure clean boost by adjusting the blend fully to the clean signal and increasing the gain.
“This pedal is not for everyone, we are certain of that. If you are seeking the dopamine rush of a new and bold sound, look elsewhere. If you desire a multitude of controls, adjustments, and extra features—this is not the ideal pedal for you. It does less and offers more. No bad sounds. Immediate satisfaction. Leave it on and forget it’s there,” concluded Scott.
The new JHS Morning Glory Clean pedal retails for $179 abroad. Below, you can check out the official launch video:
